Ubuntu and Windows both will release their latest releases this month. For Ubuntu, its normal. Every year they release a new version in April and October. For Windows, its new.
Earlier, Ubuntu made a huge gamble by introducing Unity. A whole new way to interact with your desktop machine! Many refused it (including me). But Ubuntu knew they are doing the right thing. Now Im getting to like Unity. You can read why I think like that from here : Ubuntu : I gave Unity a Second Chance and I Love it! What About You?
Now, Windows will also do the same thing. But they are making a bigger gamble. Ubuntu made something that will make things easier in the desktop and something that can be easily ported to a mobile touch friendly environment. But Windows will introduce a total mobile UI and a desktop UI. Two different systems in one OS. It makes things easier for mobile users but what about Desktop users? What do you think?
Will Windows fail? Will they be able to pull it out? If Windows fails, people will surely ditch it for Linux because already many developers are turning their head towards Linux. Even top game developers like EA games and Steam are now coming to Linux.
Windows 8 is trying to get into the mobile market which is already conquered by Linux (Android is based on Linux). At the end, who will win? Windows or Linux?
