Mobile technology is huge today, and unless you are in the middle of the woods, chances are you can’t go through a single day without seeing someone on a mobile device – or using one yourself. Because of the importance of mobile devices, it means that you will need to consider how people are going to be viewing your WordPress site. If you put together your site a few years ago, then you might still be using the same theme, and that theme might not be mobile ready. This means that your site may not be working well in the mobile devices.

Those who do not take mobile sites seriously will find that they aren’t going to be getting as many views to their site as they might if they had a quality mobile version of their site. People who are reading on phones and tablets want things to be as easy as possible, and you have to provide them with a simple to read and use site. If you do not, you can be sure they are going to go elsewhere.

If you have your WordPress site up and you like the way it looks on a computer screen, you will still want to find some ways to make it look great and act properly when people visit with a mobile device.

Here are four options you can use to get your site in order and to enter the mobile world along with everyone else!

Mobify

Mobify is a service that quite a few people are using now, and it can help you turn your site into one that is going to look great on mobile devices. You will be able to try the service free and then decide if it is working for you. It’s quite simple to use, but it isn’t your only option when you want to get mobile with your site.

WPTouch

This plugin is another option that you might want to consider. With the plugin, it will turn your blog into a web application when people use their smartphones to view your site. You will find quite a few options in the admin section so you can get your site looking just the way you want for those mobile browsers.

WordPress Mobile Edition

WordPress Mobile Edition is a plugin you will be able to use with your site and theme. The plugin is able to detect when someone is viewing the site from a mobile browser, and this tells the site that it needs to display the mobile interface.

MobilePress

The plugin works in much the same manner as the others here, letting your blog become a mobile friendly site when people are viewing it through their phones. You will even be able to create different custom themes for different mobile devices. It’s quite a bit of control, which is always nice.

GinWiz

GinWiz automatically converts a desktop site into mobile format so that it will suit the display of any given device. According to their home page, their engine renders your content readable on over 14,000 devices. Any changes you make to your desktop site will also automatically be synchronized with your mobile site, because according to their philosophy there is only one site – the desktop version. And if you’re a style pedant (you might have an issue or two with the rendering engine’s sense of aesthetics), you have an editor through which can perform advanced manipulation of text and graphics. Put in a few minutes of work and you can add navbar items, configure image galleries, add html snippets and configure fonts, borders, coloring etc. If you so desire you can define styles universally on your site with css too. And it’s free. [One of the main advantages of GinWiz though is that it provides excellent support for ssl and ecommerce. There is an actual support team which handles user issues and customer service.]

The above are some of the best options available for getting your WordPress themes mobile without spending a lot of time or money. In addition, they are quite easy to use and customize so you can be sure that your site is working just the way it should no matter what type of device someone is using to view it.

Keep in mind that technology changes rapidly, and that means that the plugins and tools that you are using today might not be sufficient tomorrow. It is always a good idea to keep abreast of the latest changes so you can be sure that your WordPress site is up to date and that it is looking great no matter how someone views the site.

JetPack just added a mobile theme option that works really well and you don’t have to worry about all the setup you need to do with other mobile plugin options.
