If you are an Android user who sit in front of your PC most of the day, then you might want to use your phone through your PC without even touching it. If you are not a person who send free sms online, then the phone is your only option. Recently, we heard about a new Android app named Mighty Text which got very popular in a very short time. Its purpose is to bring text messaging into your browser. The concept isn’t new. Earlier we reviewed an app named AirDroid which have this function. It’s not only for texting. It can do many more stuff… But today, we are going to compare these two apps in the field of texting!
Mighty Text :
This is the new guy. After installing their app, you have to go to their website and sign in with the Google account you use in your phone. Simple and easy. You’re now ready to text. The app can be used to send both SMS and MMS messages. You can even start a call through it. But there’s a problem. No contact list! You can see the contacts you have recently messaged in the sidebar but all the others are missing. You have to check the number from your phone’s contact list and type it in Mighty Text. I think that’s a huge drawback. We still need to touch the phone.
Pros :
- Easy setup
- Because its connected to your Google Account, even if you are far away from your phone, you can use any PC with an internet connection to send you message
Cons :
- No contact list
Air Droid :
Air Droid’s purpose is to control the whole phone through your browser. It’s not just for sending text messages. After installing the app, it will give you a URL and a temporary password which you can type in your browser to login to your device. One drawback in here is, you need to have both the PC and the phone connected to the same WiFi network in order for this to work. You can’t use it in any machine like in Mighty Text.
This little app doesn’t offer MMS and calling features but it have contacts! Unlike Mighty Text, in Air Droid, you can easily search through the contacts and add the numbers without even looking at the phone. You can even edit and add new contacts to your list. That’s only for texting. But this app have many more features to control your phone.
Pros :
- Can control a lot of things in the phone
- Have the ability to use the phone contacts
- Can add and edit contacts
Cons :
- The PC and the Phone need to be in the same WiFi network
Conclusion :
Both the apps have their Pros and Cons. Its up to you to decide. If you have a WiFi network and want to use the contact list, go for Air Droid. If you want to control your phone from a long distance, go for Mighty Text. But if you are a guy who rarely text like me… I don’t have to complete that sentence :)
