First of all, you might think that this is a news and I need to post it in CyberGnome. It’s a news, but I have a lot to say about it! I need to write a review on Apple’s ethics!
This week, Apple requested the court to ban Google’s Android 4.0 flagship device Galaxy Nexus. The court granted it! Now, Samsung is prohibited to sell Galaxy Nexus devices in US!!! Apple claim Galaxy Nexus violates their patents! Patents are there to protect revolutionary inventions. Not for small things like the “Quick Search Box”…
This all started when Android started to eat iOS’s market. According to my view, Android deserves it! For me, it’s better because its more open than iOS. You can change the look and feel of the device easily without cracking it. If you are a developer, you can take its code and make your own version of Android. Its completely legal. But what about iOS? I have never used it. But according to what I heard, its expensive, and not that customizable as Android. Apple won’t let you change much in iOS. They force us to do things their way!
So, people started to move to Android and now, its bigger than iOS. For many years, Android hardware manufacturers tried their best to beat the iPhone and the iPad. Recently, Samsung finally managed to beat the iPhone with their Galaxy S II, and the new S III is even better. So, Apple decided to play the “Evil Guy”!
For their luck, they have kept patenting every single bit of their devices and software. Now, they claim some Android devices violate their patents! So, they took out Galaxy Tab and now the Galaxy Nexus! Whats next? Galaxy Tab 2 and Galaxy S III?
According to Apple, Galaxy Nexus is a threat to their market. But we all know that it’s a slow going phone. People are attracted to the more powerful Galaxy S series phones. That’s the real threat to Apple! I’m sure that they might be working day and night trying to find a violation in those devices too.
What I think is, Apple is desperate. They are trying to do everything they can to take down Android. If they want to take it down, why not create something better than Android rather than killing it? Jealousy? Unable to make something better? Scared of Android?
In this point I should say that I’m not an Apple hater. Currently, I have set my next target to get a Mac Book. I don’t have any personal issues with them.
But, im asking, are they behaving as a respectable company or are they stepping over the line? Patenting your invention is great. But patenting every single bit of something and use it to take down a competitor is really low!
I don’t like this. I’m a Linux fan and I love openness. The Linux world is free and open. That’s why it have conquered all the other areas except the desktop. Remember, Android is Linux! If they can do it and if they succeeded, why others can’t follow or do something better? Microsoft understood the power of Linux. They tried to beat Linux for many years. They are the kings of the Desktop world but Smart Phones, Smart TVs, Web Servers, Super Computers and many other areas go for Linux. So, finally, we see those two getting together. Making agreements… End of the war!
Finally, the only thing im asking from Apple is, please drop your evil ways and if you want to beat Android, build something better and give more freedom to the user!
