Linux Mint 13

Linux Mint 13 is going to carry a lot of exiting new changes. They always stick to the user’s demands. Earlier, they made two tries to get rid of Unity and Gnome Shell and give the users the old familiar interface. They tried to do it with a Gnome 2 fork named Mate. Gnome have already stopped supporting Gnome 2. So, in Linux Mint 12, they tried to fix this issue with a set of Gnome Shell extensions. But with this upcoming release, they are going to introduce a new desktop like Mate and Unity which is called Cinnamon.

Cinnamon is based on the latest Gnome 3. So, you’ll get the great features of the new Gnome 3 while getting back the look and feel of the old desktop.

Apart from that and the other major changes, the next big thing is, this is a LTS version. Because it’s based on the latest Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Mint 13 also becomes a LTS.

Few hours ago, they approved the latest development ISO of Mint 13 (Maya) for the stable release. Right now, they are slowly uploading these stable ISOs to all the mirrors. You can get it from these mirrors :

But Wait! Remember what happened last time? Last time, when they started to upload the ISOs, we and most of the other blogs published the links. But at the end, the developers took that ISO offline and replaced it with a new version which fixed some bugs with the old one. So, my advice is, do not download Mint 13 now! Wait until they officially announce the release! We’ll let you know when the time is right! So, please wait!
