Chrome 16 is Here and it Crashed my Lap 5 Times! Facebook is to Blame!

Google is really fast when it comes to releasing new updates to Chrome. Now, they have just released Google Chrome 16 with multiple browser profiles! Normally, we can connect our Google account with Chrome and let it sync our passwords, bookmarks, history and other personal data between several machines… Earlier, we can connect only one account. But now, you can add more…

If you are sharing your PC with several people, then this might be a very useful feature. Without letting one dominant person to connect his account, you can now let everyone to use this feature. Apart from that new feature, there are also several critical security fixes in this new release.

The problem is…

Normally, Chrome have a bad habit of crashing my whole system occasionally. But still, its my primary browser… But, today, after I put this update, my system crashed 5 times! If I manage to close Chrome before things go worse, then I can save my machine… Otherwise, I have to shut it down by force!

This is really annoying and I had two suspects in my head… First, I disabled some plugins and checked… Still it’s crashing. My other suspect is Facebook! If I close the Facebook tab during a freeze, it saves my system. But, I need more proof… So, I tried to open the Chrome task manager during one of these system freezes. Unfortunately, it won’t respond. Next time, I kept it open after starting Chrome. When the system freezed, I switched to the task manager and presto… My hunch is correct…. Facebook is taking a huge amount of CPU!

Something Google did in the new Chrome made things worse. But I’m not putting the blame completely on Chrome. All the other sites works perfectly on it. Facebook also have to take the responsibility… They better fix these problems soon!

Now you might think that Im having a very small machine… Nope… Facebook and Chrome crashed a Core i7 laptop which have 6 GB of Ram! Now that’s serious!

So, if you are facing such problems (I saw a huge number of complains on the chrome forums) try to use a different browser for Facebook. But, if you are not a victim, go ahead and update your browser!

Check this out. You are not the only one facing trouble from Chrome’s new build… This is Flash video playing on Safari and Chrome comparison of CPU rate. http://i.imgur.com/x0DpZ.png

    u r correct… i left chrome bcoz of same reason… only fb to blame….

  • Sammit

i have been using maxthon as my primary browser……it is really great and fast……if you really wanna use chrome browser…..then there are other alternatives like COMODO DRAGON which is also based on chromium 16……

@Sammit Yea bro, they are also based on Chrome so most probably they might also have the same issue! I have heard about Maxthon and it seems to be a pretty good browser :D But if you want your sites to load the same way as Chrome… better try Safari because both of them have the same rendering engine Webkit!

I am not really updated with this but thanks for the great post then…

      @LauLau81 You welcome bro :D

i think google chrome is to blame… when you open facebook from other browsers, it didn’t crash…and whenever you open it from chrome..it crashesso that means google is taking revenge on facebook… it wants users to be attracted towards google + thats all…seems like blogger is google fan… total crap post….

@SachitTandukar I don’t know what you have to say against Chrome but I really think this is more of a bug. Chrome would probably release a bug fix for this and it’ll be solved. Not to take it personally but I love Chrome more than Facebook and Google+ together…

    • http://techhamlet.com EApubs

@SachitTandukar Hehe… you have a point bro…. It can be…. Today I ran Facebook separately on Safari while I did my normal work on Chrome… so far so good… no crashing!

I used to have the same problem as you with my Chrome browser but I just solved that by installing Morzilla. So the tricky part is to open everything that is crushing easily with morzilla and the rest with Chrome.

Of Course Chrome is to blame! Like Sachit said, why would google want to help out facebook when they are now directly competing?!

    • http://techhamlet.com EApubs

You are correct bro… but if i can remember correctly, the problem is there even before the release of Google+… Sometimes it might not be a direct attack at Facebook… Or, they might have planed it well!

  • TechHamlet

:) Im also feeling the same but I don’t think I ca ditch Chrome :( I love that browser bro!

On thought that Chrome had security features that will not allow any rogue site to crash it! This was what was mentioned by Google when it launched Chrome 3 years back.

    • http://techhamlet.com EApubs

Except for extremely rogue Facebook :P

  • http://techhamlet.com EApubs

I don’t think its a virus because even if I do a clean format, I still get the issue! (Even after a low level format!)

  • Shubhamey

same here…so i use firefox only for facebook…and chrome for all other work…
