Google is really fast when it comes to releasing new updates to Chrome. Now, they have just released Google Chrome 16 with multiple browser profiles! Normally, we can connect our Google account with Chrome and let it sync our passwords, bookmarks, history and other personal data between several machines… Earlier, we can connect only one account. But now, you can add more…
If you are sharing your PC with several people, then this might be a very useful feature. Without letting one dominant person to connect his account, you can now let everyone to use this feature. Apart from that new feature, there are also several critical security fixes in this new release.
The problem is…
Normally, Chrome have a bad habit of crashing my whole system occasionally. But still, its my primary browser… But, today, after I put this update, my system crashed 5 times! If I manage to close Chrome before things go worse, then I can save my machine… Otherwise, I have to shut it down by force!
This is really annoying and I had two suspects in my head… First, I disabled some plugins and checked… Still it’s crashing. My other suspect is Facebook! If I close the Facebook tab during a freeze, it saves my system. But, I need more proof… So, I tried to open the Chrome task manager during one of these system freezes. Unfortunately, it won’t respond. Next time, I kept it open after starting Chrome. When the system freezed, I switched to the task manager and presto… My hunch is correct…. Facebook is taking a huge amount of CPU!
Something Google did in the new Chrome made things worse. But I’m not putting the blame completely on Chrome. All the other sites works perfectly on it. Facebook also have to take the responsibility… They better fix these problems soon!
Now you might think that Im having a very small machine… Nope… Facebook and Chrome crashed a Core i7 laptop which have 6 GB of Ram! Now that’s serious!
So, if you are facing such problems (I saw a huge number of complains on the chrome forums) try to use a different browser for Facebook. But, if you are not a victim, go ahead and update your browser!
